China has gained registrations of 4 novel pesticides (including
technical and formulations) from Jan.-Aug 2015. CCM's local expert forecasted that they will hit the market in
the near future.
This is contributed by Wang Jianwo, Secretary General of Hunan
Provincial Crop Protection Industry Association.
Since Jan. 2015, China has speeded up registrations of novel
pesticides. Until Aug., the registration certificates of 4 pesticide technical
and 5 related formulations have been approved in China. The registered active
ingredients include ZJ0712, LH-2010A, B2-a and cycloxaprid, three of them are
fungicides, mainly used to prevent and control cucumber powdery mildew, downy
mildew and rice sheath blight.
Along with the registration and launch of novel pesticide varieties in China,
pesticide structure gets well optimized and its market competitiveness has been
improved to some extent.
ZJ0712: to prevent and control cucumber powdery mildew
On 28 Aug., Zhejiang Hetian Chemical Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang Hetian)
obtained formal registration certificates for 98% ZJ0712 TC and 10% ZJ0712 SC.
ZJ0712 was researched by the Zhejiang Research Institute of Chemical Industry
(Zhejiang Branch of the National Pesticide R&D South Center) and Zhejiang
Hetian after 10 years of R&D. It is the first novel pesticide variety with
independent intellectual property right formally registered by Zhejiang
Research Institute of Chemical Industry.
LH-2010A: to fight cucumber downy mildew and rice sheath blight
On 30 July, Shandong United Pesticide Industry Co., Ltd. (Shandong
United Pesticide) gained temporary registration certificates for 98% LH-2010A
TC, 50% LH-2010A WG, 40% LH-2010A · hexaconazole SC. The mentioned two
formulations are used in prevention and control cucumber downy mildew and rice
sheath blight. The company revealed that two formulations will hit the Chinese
market within this year.
LH-2010A, a synthetic fungicide, was jointly researched by
Shandong United Pesticide and Shandong Agricultural University in 2010, which has
awarded National Invention Patent (First Grade).
B2-a: to combat cucumber powdery mildew
On 16 April, CAC Nantong Chemical Co., Ltd. (CAC Nantong) gained
temporary registration certificate for 98% B2-a TC. Also, the company obtained
temporary registration certificate for 5% B2-a EC on 20 April. At present, CAC
Nantong plans to construct a 100 t/a B2-a EC production line.
B2-a, a new pesticide variety, belongs to plant induced resistance
activator, which is researched by the East China University of Science and
Technology. It has no fungicidal activity, but induces plant resistance to
bacteria in living plants.
Cycloxaprid: to prevent and control rice plant hopper
On 17 April, Shanghai Shengnong Pesticide Co., Ltd. (Shanghai
Shengnong) gained temporary registration certificates for 97% cycloxaprid TC
and 25% cycloxaprid WP. Cycloxaprid, a new neonicotinoid insecticide, is
researched by the East China University of Science and Technology. It is a
high-efficient and low-toxic green pesticide, used in the prevention and
control of sucking mouth parts insects. According to field efficacy test,
cycloxaprid demonstrates high efficacy to brown rice plant hopper, sogatella
furcifera, laodelphax striatellus, good efficacy to brevicoryne
brassicae and cucumber aphid, subordinate efficacy to rice leaf roller.
Cycloxaprid shows a declining toxicity to bees.
It has higher activity to bemisia tabaci than that of
imidacloprid in cotton fields and presents high efficacy to imidacloprid-resistant
pests.
As a big pesticide manufacturer, China dominates global pesticide
market in terms of output and exports. Most of them are generic pesticides, but
the limited variety and number of novel pesticides become a first major
bottleneck of Chinese pesticide development. Faced with changing market
dynamics, Chinese pesticide industry is encountering transformation and
upgrading. Depending on technology and adjusting pesticide structure is the key
for transformation and upgrading in Chinese pesticide industry.
